W Taipei Overview

W Taipei is a 5-star hotel in the heart of Xinyi District, often considered Taipei’s most vibrant and upscale area.  Occupying floors 8 through 31, the hotel has 405 rooms which come with floor-to-ceiling windows, giving you prime views of the city skyline and (for certain rooms) Taipei 101.  Step outside the hotel, and you’re instantly surrounded by designer malls, Michelin-starred restaurants, and some of the city’s best nightlife.  The MRT (Taipei’s metro system) is just downstairs, and for a more scenic adventure, there’s a YouBike station right outside, making it easy to explore Taipei and exercise at the same time.

Inside, W Taipei delivers on the W brand’s signature modern design and party-ready atmosphere.  Neon-lit hallways and high-energy social areas keep things interesting.  It’s stylish without feeling  formal, like a high-end nightclub and a five-star hotel had a very well-designed baby.

W Taipei Check In

The moment we stepped out of our Uber at the W Taipei, a bellboy was ready to take our luggage.  The “lower lobby” is on the first floor and it’s a sleek, open space with a concierge for guest services.  We were quickly directed to the elevators which take you up to the main lobby on the 10th floor, where check-in happens.

As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member, the check-in staff went over the perks we’d enjoy during our stay:

  • Enhanced room upgrade based on availability upon arrival.
  • Late check-out until 4:00 PM.
  • Daily “First Round on Us” at WOOBAR from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, featuring a curated drink list for you and a guest.
  • Complimentary water.
  • Free high-speed internet.
  • Daily breakfast at YEN for you and a guest (6:30 AM – 10:00 AM on weekdays, 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM on weekends).

After check-in, a staff member personally escorted us all the way to our room.  Walked us from the lobby, to the elevator, up the elevator, out the elevator, down the hall, and kept chatting with us until we got into our room.  She was super sweet, and lived up to the hotel’s “Whatever, Whenever” ethos… offering her favorite dining recommendations that were close by.  It was something you don’t see at every hotel.

Just moments later, our luggage arrived, making the whole arrival process feel seamless and effortless.

W Taipei Fabulous Room, Corner Unit

Unlike traditional hotels that use terms like “Standard”, “Deluxe” or “Suite” to describe their rooms, W Hotels have unique titles like Cozy, Wonderful, Spectacular, and Fabulous.  For suites, they usually have Fantastic, Marvelous, WOW and…. Extreme WOW (which comes with an Extreme Wow price of ~$10k USD/night, but you get almost 4,000 sq ft of space).

Our stay was booked for a Fabulous Room.

From the moment we walked in, the room was flooded with natural light.  At almost 500 square feet, the space felt open and well-balanced, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering sweeping city views.

Our room was upgraded from a Fabulous Room to… a Fabulous Room, Corner Unit.  Not much of an upgrade, but it did offer more windows which meant more light and more views.  The room had a plush king-sized bed which was framed by a high-gloss panel wall and warm wood slats.  The lighting was integrated beautifully with floating nightstands keeping things minimal and modern.

One of the standout features?  The window-side daybed was perfect for lounging and soaking in the view.  The built-in desk paired with a sleek chair made for a solid workspace.  The mix of materials – from the soft, gradient-patterned carpet to the polished stone entryway – kept things stylish without feeling overdone.

The bathroom of the Fabulous Room was laid out nicely with a semi-open concept lookSleek marble floors, warm wooden panels, and soft ambient lighting set the tone, complete with a deep soaking tub, rainfall shower, and a bidet-equipped toilet tucked behind frosted glass.

The vanity area was clean and well-lit, making it easy to get ready without feeling cramped.

Additional Room Features

The room included an extra bathrobe neatly hung in the closet. The wardrobe itself is well-designed, featuring built-in lighting, plenty of hangers, and a sleek luggage rack.

Tucked in a drawer of the luggage rack, there was a flashlight, lint roller, a shoe buffer labeled “Need a Quick Buff?”, and the Book of Mormon commonly found in Marriott branded properties.

The room safe was neatly tucked inside a drawer, perfect for stashing passports, valuables, or any impulsive luxury purchases from Taipei’s shopping districts. Simple to use, with a four-digit code system.

W Taipei ensures guests stay sharp with a Smooth Operator garment steamer, neatly packed alongside plush slippers in the closet. The Chinese text 平整大師 (píng zhěng dà shī), roughly translates to “Wrinkle-Free Master,” emphasizing its purpose of keeping clothes wrinkle-free.

There was a cabinet labeled LOOK INSIDE. I’m pretty sure that’s less of a suggestion and more of a command. I’d bet my entire minibar tab that 100% of guests open it. But what’s inside? I was thinking of not showing you… just to mess with you.

This little red gorilla sat proudly on the cabinet, watching over the room like a silent guardian. Naturally, I tried to fit it in my suitcase because who wouldn’t want a bright red gorilla as a souvenir? Unfortunately, it was both too big and too heavy.

Well, I caved. Here’s what’s inside the cabinet – snacks, dried cranberries, fried chicken almonds (because why not?), and a corkscrew / bottle opener. But what really got me? W Taipei charges for shower caps, razors, toothbrushes, and even toothpaste. Stay stylish, stay fresh… for an extra fee.

Ah yes, the classic hotel minibar, convenience at a price that makes you question your life choices. Red Bull, sparkling water, soda, wine and beer.  Perfect for when you want to celebrate, hydrate, and financially devastate yourself all at once.

UNI Water. “Be Unique.” That’s the slogan printed on every bottle. The bedside nightstand had four of them. Hydration was clearly a priority.

Another two bottles of UNI water were tucked away in the bathroom. We started to feel less unique having a total of six bottles of the exact same water.  But we did appreciate it, very much.

A Nespresso machine, an electric kettle, and a selection of TWG teas — W Taipei had the caffeine situation covered. The mugs even had messages: “I Love Coffee” and “Drink With Me.” Not that we needed any extra convincing.

The room had a built-in Bose sound system with Bluetooth connectivity, complete with a subwoofer! Finally, a hotel that understands the importance of bass. Whether it’s for movie night or Spotify playlists, this hotel ensures you feel every moment.

W Taipei thought of everything when it came to power options. The room featured universal power outlets, so no need to panic about adapters. Plus, built-in USB-A and USB-C ports meant charging everything from your phone to your laptop was effortless. Finally, a hotel that understands the modern traveler.

WOOBAR: A Stylish Lounge

Apparently, in its heyday, WOOBAR was a hot spot.

While not the “it” spot it used to be, WOOBAR does feel effortlessly cool.  Neon lighting, bold decor, and a mix of lounge seating make it a perfect place to unwind after a long day or kick off a night out.

The music is upbeat but not too loud, and the seating is comfortable and spacious.  If you’re looking to relax with a drink, get some work done, or just people-watch, WOOBAR delivers.  It’s stylish, energetic, and a solid spot to kick back with a well-made cocktail.

A standout?  The Taipei Mule.  It’s a local twist on the Moscow Mule, featuring osmanthus flower-infused vodka, Taiwanese sorghum liquor, fresh lemon juice, and a house-made osmanthus flower syrup, topped with ginger beer.

Another solid choice?  The Tropical Star.  Made with gold rum, starfruit juice, lime, falernum, and amaro, it had a smooth balance of sweet and tart.  Not on the free drink list, but definitely worth trying.

WOOBAR Food

WOOBAR has a solid food menu too.  A mix of Taiwanese flavors and international bites, it’s perfect for sharing or just snacking while you drink.  Here is some of what we had.

Three Cup Chicken

A Taiwanese staple, done right.  The chicken was tender and deeply flavorful, coated in a rich caramelized sauce of soya sauce, sesame oil, and rice wine.  Fresh basil added a fragrant kick.

Chicken Wings

These weren’t just any wings.  They came served in a bird’s nest, making for a cool presentation. The crispy coating had a satisfying crunch, and the chicken was juicy inside.

Beef Scallion Pancake

WET Outdoor Pool

The WET Outdoor Pool at W Taipei is a great spot to unwind.  It’s right next to WOOBAR so grabbing a drink and lounging poolside is easy.  During the day, it’s a solid place to catch some sun.  By evening, the water reflects the city lights, turning it into a calm, laid-back escape.

YEN – Breakfast with a View

YEN, W Taipei’s signature restaurant, sits on the top (31st) floor and serves a buffet breakfast every morning.  Here you can get some panoramic views of Taipei, making it one of the best places to start your day.  The space itself is sleek and stylish, with black walls, purple-tinted glass, and modern chandeliers.  It has W’s signature bold and flashy look.

The breakfast spread is extensive, covering everything from traditional Taiwanese dishes to Western classics.  Your first time there, it’s definitely overwhelming with choice.  You’ll find bacon & eggs, dim sum, congee, fresh fruit, pastries, an omelette station, and even a juice bar with freshly squeezed options. There’s also a dedicated noodle and soup station where chefs prepare fresh bowls to order.  The quality is solid across the board, and the variety ensures there’s something for everyone.

One morning during our stay, a national holiday pushed the breakfast rush to another level.  The line to get in was looooong, and the normally relaxed dining room felt more like an airport terminal at peak hour.  Still, the staff handled the crowd well, keeping things moving while ensuring the buffet stayed stocked.  If you’re visiting on a holiday or weekend, getting there early is a good idea.

Overall, breakfast at YEN is a highlight of staying at W Taipei. The food selection is strong, the views are unbeatable, and the service keeps up even when the dining room is packed. If you’re a Platinum Elite guest, the free breakfast here is easily the best perk of the stay.

FIT Gym

W Taipei’s FIT Gym, located on the 12th floor, is a massive, well-equipped fitness center with everything you need for a serious workout.  You’ve got rows of cardio machines, plenty of free weights, and a full lineup of strength training machines.  There’s also a dedicated Yoga Room with group classes that you can sign up for.  Towels and bottled water?  Yes, those are free too.

Final Impressions

If you’re visiting Taipei and want a hotel that’s modern, stylish, and right in the middle of the city’s best shopping, dining, and nightlife, W Taipei delivers.
