What is Addiction Aquatic Development?

We arrived just before closing. The crowds were thinning. Staff were quietly placing discount stickers on trays of sashimi.

This was not the bustling daytime seafood destination you see on Instagram. This was Addiction Aquatic Development (AAD) at night.

If you time it right, AAD turns from a premium seafood experience into one of the best late-night sushi deals in Taipei.

Addiction Aquatic Development is a modern, upscale seafood destination that’s located within the Taipei Fish Market in Zhongshan District.  It’s a hybrid between a traditional fish market, a gourmet grocery store, and a restaurant.  Open every day from 7:00AM to 10:30PM, it offers fresh seafood in a clean and stylish environment with a major focus on quality.

You can dine in, shop, or grab a tray of sushi and eat immediately.  Everything is fresh and carefully presented.  The space feels more like a curated food hall than a fish market.

This is not a traditional Taipei night market.  There are no street vendors or chaotic food stalls.  AAD is clean, climate-controlled, and premium.

Here’s a little breakdown of what to expect.

Live Seafood & Fish Market

The entrance of Addiction Aquatic Development leads to a Fish Market, where you’re greeted by the freshest catch Taipei has to offer.  Here, rows of tanks showcase an array of live seafood – scallops, abalone, crab and fish.  A must-visit for seafood lovers in Taipei.

The Butcher

For those who appreciate the finest cuts, The Butcher at Addiction Aquatic Development is a carnivore’s dream.  This specialty counter showcases premium meats sourced from renowned producers around the world.  Highlights include:

  • Miyazaki A5 Wagyu: Revered for its intense marbling and melt-in-your-mouth texture, this Japanese beef is among the most luxurious in the world.
  • Julian Martin Iberico Ham: Sourced from Spain, this ham is celebrated for its rich, nutty flavor and delicate texture, making it a sought-after delicacy.

Meat lovers seeking something extraordinary are sure to be ecstatic.

A Look Inside

Beyond the market and the butcher, Addiction Aquatic Development opens up into something that feels more like a high-end food hall.  There’s a Sushi Bar, a Seafood Bar, a Wine Bar, a Juice Bar, and a BBQ spot – each one its own little destination.  We arrived late in the evening, so most of the dining options were already winding down for the night. We weren’t here for the full spread anyway – we came intentionally late to look for discounted sushi and sashimi.

Pro tip: Some of the best markdowns begin in the last 60–90 minutes before closing (usually after 8:30–9:00PM). That’s when selection tightens and prices slide.

Timing It Right: End-of-Day Discounts

Going late means discounted sushi, sashimi, and rice bowls, all beautifully packaged with prices slashed 40-60% off their original prices.  The quality is still top-notch.  The only reason for the markdowns is shelf life.  Most items are sold fresh daily and need to move before end-of-day.

If you’re not fixated on eating in a restaurant or having a hot meal, near closing time is hands-down the best time to visit Addiction Aquatic Development.  You get the same food, same freshness, with far less crowd stress and huge savings.

Checkout Time

Checking out is seamless.  Well, almost.

Please note that this place is CASH ONLY, and will not accept credit cards.

With that said, the counter is clean, efficient, and well-organized, which fits the rest of the experience perfectly. And right as you’re about to pay, you’ll notice a cooler stocked with cold beers and sake sitting right there within arm’s reach. Grab something cold to drink alongside your sushi and you’re all set for a proper meal.

Now, remember how we were talking about end-of-day discounts?  The entire thing came to NT$2,594.  That’s about $80USD.  And that includes two jumbo beers.

Time To Eat!

After checking out, we found a spot to settle in, lined everything up, and dug in.  Sushi, sashimi, and an ikura don, all picked up at end-of-day prices.

I can’t finish this post without dedicating some space to ikura don.

Ikura don is a bowl of warm Japanese rice topped with salmon roe.  Ikura means salmon roe, and don is short for donburi, which means rice bowl.

The bright orange fish eggs have a soft, slightly firm pop to them with a rich, briny, oceanic flavor.  By themselves, they’re on the saltier side.  But with rice, they are divine.  It’s somewhat considered a luxury item in Japan, and the quality of the ikura really makes or breaks the dish.  Getting it from a place like Addiction Aquatic Development (a proper high-end seafood market) makes a lot of sense.

You’ll notice in the photo that we bought an extra serving of ikura. Because as long as it’s fresh, you can never have enough ikura.

The sashimi was standard fare of salmon, tuna, squid, and scallops.  Eating right there in the market with everything still buzzing was the perfect atmosphere.

And since we got there late, there were no reservations required, no wait, no fuss.  Just great seafood at a great price.

Is AAD Worth Visiting at Night?

If your goal is a full sit-down seafood experience, go during the day.

If your goal is high-quality sushi and sashimi at a discount, go late.

We arrived near closing and focused entirely on takeaway trays.  Selection narrows as the night goes on, but prices improve.  You trade variety for value.

If you want a calm, value-packed sushi and sashimi experience without the daytime crowds or sit-down restaurant prices, visiting AAD late is one of Taipei’s best bargains. Go earlier in the day if you want the full range of dining and seafood options, but go late for the deals.
